XP seems to be stuck in diagnostic mode

After doing a virus clean from Symantec for the W32.klez virus, my computer
seems to be stuck in diagnostic mode. It seems I confused the msconfig check
box for "diagnostic" with "safe" mode.
After booting in diagnostic mode, I can no longer boot in normal mode even
if "normal" mode is checked.
The taskbar is white rather than the normal blue, no networking is available
(no internet), and I can't add hardware nor even get to device manager.
I've tried booting to safe mode, changing it back to normal and rebooting,
but that doesn't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, even from the F8 menu.

Also, none of my startup programs will run, including Norton AV

What OS are you running? If win98 or ME check to make sure the system.ini
file is not corrupted.

Right now, I don't have access to the Internet. Networking isn't working, so
no DSL

Hi Eric,

Download and run this removal tool and Spybot from Safe Mode.

Is it possible you accidently unchecked one of the apps listed in Diagnostic
mode?
Go through the whole list & check any which have blank boxes. If you have
just one unchecked, it will boot into diagnostic mode every time.
