XP repair install?

My machine will not boot-up, just recycles.
It will not start in last usable configuration.
It will not start in safe mode.
When I boot-up on the XP CD, it only shows the
partition and unpartitioned sections of the drive,
with no repair command available.
My next step is a complete re-install, but I would
rather not lose the "my documents" folder contents.

Anyone been here before?

Do you have a retail copy of XP ? If so , it should be located in the
install section / repair present install. Jym

My copy is OEM, shipped with the compaq machine.
Maybe that is my problem?

That is you problem . I think a retail disk is worth the price just for this
feature. Jym
