Hello, I am having major headaches with XP's cd writing tool. I want to back
up some word processor documnents that I have typed up using Easy Word - part
of the easy office suite. The documents are saved in RTF format. I can save
the files to cd using the built in tool but I cannot update work or work on
the content as the documents are saved as read only - although the originals
were not. When I try to uncheck the 'read only' box I get an error message.
How can I sort this out. When I uses Windows 98 all I had to do was a save as
and then all future updates as saves.

Any help would be superb

You can't save the files to CD and then work on them. You will have to copy
them to a folder on your drive - right click on them and remove the Read
Only check mark. While on the CD - they are read Only and can't be changed.

Unless it's a CD-RW disc you won't be able to do that. And you will need
CD-RW drive in both PC's. You would be time and money ahead to get a USB
thumbdrive and use that.

You can't. A CD-R uses a LASER to BURN HOLES in the recording medium. There
is no way to UN-BURN the holes or fill them in.

Think punched paper-tape.

The method used is essentially a CD-R one, in which files are written as
batches (ISO Sessions). They cannot be modified individually, all you
can do on a CD-RW disk is erase it completely. They are thus inherently
read only, and marked as such. Read up at
