Can I install Win XP Pro over the top of Win XP Home ?

Without losing data that is already on the drive?

Assuming I leave the partition intact.

Yes. But ask yourself - why. I always suggest making a comparison check as
you will end up paying twice for an awful lot you will never use.

I understand, but I mistakenly copied the ntoskrnl.exe
from PRO over the top of the HOME addition.

Thought it would easier to just install all of the PRO
addition.

Can I install Win XP Pro over the top of Win XP Home ?

Yes. You have to get the regular (and expensive) Pro Upgrade CD, and
then run it from the Home System to upgrade. The box does not mention
this use, but use it just as if you were upgrading Win2000. First make
sure you need one of the additional facilities in Pro only - apart from
those the systems are identical
