XP PRO will not authenticate on the domain

In our office environment we are running XP pro
authenticating through a domain. We have had several pcs
that have been working properly no longer will
authenticate to the domain. The solution that I have
found for this is to log on locally with an admin account
and then removing the pc from the domain and re-adding to
the domain. This solution works but I want to find the
cause of this. Please help.
