Domain Login Slow

We have just installed two new Win 2003 Servers. Server A currently has the
following roles AD, DHCP, and file server. Server B's only role is DNS. I
have some XP Pro workstations that login into the domain relatively quickly,
but other XP Pro PCs take two or more minutes to completely acquire the
desktop.

There are no profiles, scripts or anything else running during login. Just
authentication, as far as I can tell. The domain name is a ".local" ending. I
am having difficulty determining whether this is a DNS problem or what. Any
help appreciated. Thanks.

It is almost certainly a DNS issue. All domain clients and servers should
be using only the primary domain DNS server for name resolution, and the DNS
server should be forwarding unresolved names to your ISP or using root hint
servers for resolution.

To add to Richard's reply:

Post an unedited ipconfig /all from a problem workstation - and from one of
your DCs.
