Before you upgrade, you should have run the Windows XP
upgrade advisor. It will tell you what devices and applications
should be uninstalled/updated prior to doing the upgrade.
However, now that it's done you should update the following
device drivers, Chipset, Video and Sound card. Visit your
PC vendor website, enter your Serial # or System ID and
it will take you to a downloads page. (Be sure to download
drivers specifically for Windows XP).
System32 is opening because of a fractured link inside the
Registry. See Kelly's Tweak page for a fix.
If your Anti-Virus software is older than 2-2.5 years old you
should consider a newer package ( per-Malke)
You should also run the standard Spyware tools on your PC.
MS-Works should have carried through the upgrade without
any issues. If you do not have the Installer set, you may have
to contact the vendor and see if they will send you a copy.
But I would go to the Works (Office) web page and download
any updates & patches for your particular version.
The key to a successful migration from 9x is preparation. Run
the Advisor, Uninstall old apps, Clean up Temp/IE caches &
run all the Spyware removal tools before starting. But most
importantly - Backup all your important data.
