XP Pro sp2 stops install with 34 minutes remaining

I reformatted my hard drive and am trying to install XP Professional service
pack 2. When it has 34 minutes left it stops and the machine turns off. I
was shown an article about how to perform a hot fix for this problem in
service pack 1, but the instructions are long and complex, and since this is
a new install I don't know how I can perform those instructions - with no
operating system. Plus, this is sp 2 not sp 1.
Can anyone help me?
The article mentions a possible problem using a keyboard with a USB
connection. What if I unplug my keyboard during the XP installation? Or if I
plug a different serial keyboard in? (I am not sure the keyboard is USB.)

SP2 doesnt install w/o xp pro or home already installed, install either, then
let windows update carry you along with all the updates,or untill it shows
"Install SP2",if you have the cd,run it thru that, after, run update.

Do you have a laptop with pentium 4 mobile with speedstep when I had to
reinstall win. xp I had to disable speedstep in the bios then re enable
speedstep when done. If you try to install without disablieing speedstep it
would freeze about half way thru the install.
