I just got new parts for my computer, excluding the hard disk and cd-rom
drives. I've been trying to install Windows XP but it always hangs at 34 or
35 minutes remaining. I've tried everything I could to remedy this problem
but it doesn't work!

What should I do? Please help!

i'm not sure if i got any part wrong, but while the only file i could access
was the setupapi.log file, but as i was reading it, setup was continuing in
the background, and ultimately stopped again, preventing me from reading any
other parts of the log file. is it right that i can only view the files in
c:\windows after pressing shift+f10 in the gui screen?

i tried using a win98 startup disk to do into dos to view the files, but
there wasn't any c:\

I've solved the problem! It was my on-board lan device that was acting
weird... i disabled it and everything's fine! but whenever I enable it, the
system hangs... =(

I had to buy a pci lan card for one machine because the onboard lan was
flaky.

Make sure that your NIC cable is not connected. I had the same problem only
it was hanging at 32 minutes. I unplugged the cable and all was good

This is usually caused by a piece of hardware that is incompatible with
the drivers that are included with the install CD. This can happen even
if a piece of hardware is listed in the Windows Catalog because drivers
may have been updated since the Install CD went to the presses.

Remove every single piece of hardware installed in your PC except what is
absolutely needed to do the install. No NIC's, no sound cards,
temporarily switch to an old standard SVGA video card, only use one plain
CD-ROM drive, no DVD or CD-RW.

This is just to get the install to go through. Once XP is installed you
can add these components one at a time and let PnP discover them and
install drivers or install the manufacturer's drivers as necessary.
