XP Pro, SP2, Firewall and My Workgroup

I installed SP2 the other day and it futzed up my McAfee firewall. I ended up
removing McAfee. I've engaged the MS firewall in the simplest possible way (just
enabled it), but when I look at either Computers Near Me or Computers in my
Workgroup, nothing is listed. I don't even get the computer I'm on. If I try to ping
it, I get errors. If I try to ping another computer on my local network, I get ping
errors. What's up?

You have to make sure File & Printer Sharing is enabled under the
Exceptions tab in the Windows Firewall. Do this from the Windows
Firewall applet in Control Panel.

There's a check in that box. Even if I turn off the firewall, it doesn't let me see
my own computer.

From another post concerning a very similar problem, we have:

I have a similar problem. This did not change my inability to see my
computer or any other computers (2 others) on my local network.
Computers Near Me displays nothing but Unknown.

If I go to the Run/Cmd window, and enter various pings like ping
localhost, ping 127.0.0.1, I get a ping. If I try 192.168.0.3 (this XP
computer) or 192.168.0.1 (in another room), I get "request timed out".
If I go to one of the other computers and try to ping the other
computers, I get "unreachable".
