How Disable MS Firewall on Local Network?

How do I disable any firewall protection between my XP Pro (SP2) and any other
computers on my local network? I want to be able to operate freely between it and
other computers, and vice versa.

Hi

Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Security Center

There you will find the Firewall control.

Hi

I don't think that the XP firewall is all that clever. I use ZoneAlarm,
which gives you many options about who can access your PC and who cannot.
For that reason, I have disabled my XP firewall.

I think that's a good idea, but unfortunately I'm a bit trapped in my options at the
moment. Maybe in a few weeks I'll go back to my old firewall, McAfee.

If, by operate freely, you merely mean to share files and printers, then
leave the WF enabled, but check the F&P sharing box on WF's control panel.
That will let WF protect you from the outside world while enabling F&P
sharing on your LAN.

Even though XP's WF is improved with SP2, it still does not supply any
protection for outbound traffic. So, I prefer ZoneAlarm.

I take it you mean FW for WF (Fire...Wall)? Actually, the other machine is very often
Linux, but sometimes W2k. Right now I want Linux to be able to talk (send messages)
to XP without restrictions.

OK, then disable WF. Use ZA as a firewall if your LAN has a WAN link.
And, WF means Windows Firewall. WF is XP SP2's updated version of what
was called, pre-SP2, ICF.
