Yes, it sure is.
I believe you can manually set up other computers on your LAN to sync with
your XP Pro box as a time server, although I've never tried this (I
generally work with domains) -
I'm trying to do that. It's not working.
So far it looks like XP doesn't serve NTP. It may offer some NTP version that is not
compatible with the machine that's trying to contact it. Dare I say what kind of
machine it is? xuniL.
net time /setsntp:<computername or ip>
I just became familiar with net time this moring. A query with it reports something
like windows.time.com, 0x1. 0x1 is a bit weird.
What happens if you try that?
That said, presuming all computers on your network have Internet access, why
not just make sure they all sync to the same public time server? What's your
goal?
Now there's a leading question.
I'll be brief. The XP machine is the only machine
on my local network that has access to the internet, via a modem, 30k baud--on good days.
Also, have you seen KB 314054 ?
I have no idea what KB is?
I suspect the answer lies in
<
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314054>.
Oh, that's funny. I see that's your KB reference. Didn't connect above.
I've not tried it yet because of some readability issues, and the need to backup the
registry. Registry back up is solved. Print is way too small to read, or was. Bridged
that. Printed page gets truncated on the right making it difficult AND dangerous to
use. I will brave it though.
