XP Pro sp1 setup hangs

E

Windows XP Pro SP1 will not install over an existing Win
XP pro installation. My previous setup was badly messed
up after I tried to remove Norton Anti-virus. When I try
a clean install from my DVD-drive, the XP setup will copy
all files to my HD, ask some questions about clean or
repair, etc. I asked for a clean setup. When it gets to
the point what I want to do with my existing file system
(convert to NTFS, use as is, etc.) the setup process
hangs. I've tried it several times, this is the farthest I
came. Other times, the setup hangs even faster.

I already disabled USB in my BIOS, disconnected the
network cable, put a rabbitspaw in the floppy drive,

What should I try next?

Eric;
Make sure the CD drive and CD are clean and free of scratches

Try a Clean Installation this way:
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

Enable or install firewall BEFORE connecting network cable.

Install ALL Critical Windows Updates:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.
