xp pro sp/2 not recognising my mini DV camera

HI can anyone help?

I have a Panasonic NV-GS21 Mini DV camera which my Pc running XP pro sp/2
will not recognise when i connect it via Firewire. The camera does not show
up in any form in device manager but my firewire card does and shows as
working with no problems. The camera is recognised when connected via USB.

can anyone give advice on how to solve this?

Is the camera recognised on the firewire port of any other computer? If
not, the firewire port may be damaged on the camera. If the camera is
under warranty, you might talk to the retailer.

Hi Patrick thanks for the response.
Yes the camera is picked up still on my old pc which runs xp pro and a
friends pc too but these versions of pro do not have service pack 1 or 2
installed.... my thoughts are that the problem is a software one not hardware
