Cant capture DV

I am having a problem capturing DV to my PC. It used to work fine (its been a
long time since I did it last) but now I get an error message saying that the
program had an unexpexted error or could not communicate with the DV device.
I have read many forums and other posts here which suggest a problem with
the 1394 (firewire) drivers. I tried many of the suggested fixes and have
even uninstalled SP2 with no change.
The PC it used to work on has a PCI firewire card and is running XP SP1
(back from SP2).
I have a newer PC that is running SP2 with on-board firewire, I can control
the DV camera with it (fast forward, rewind etc etc) but still cant capture.

Any new suggestions would be greatly appreciated or my DV camera is useless.

I am having the same problem with my new HP. I can control the camera but
cannot capture. The factory installed USB/1394 hub is detecting but not
capturing. I have contacted HP they sent me a new PCI card but I continue to
have the same problem. Have you come up with any solution? I am assuming it
is a driver error but cannot find any updated ones. The PCI is VIA.

Try a different 1394 cable.

the cable works fine with the other card that is installed on my computer.
