hey anyone got any ideas i am trying to format my drive
with my xp pro cd and it wont detect my hard drive and
cancels out of the setup but my computer boots otherwise
any

Is your hard drive connected to the motherboard or to an add-on controller
card? If the latter, you may have to install the driver for it, at the
point where you see Press F6 to install a 3rd party RAID or SCSI driver.

If it's a normal IDE device, then if all else fails try resetting your CMOS.
I ran into a similar problem the other day and resetting the CMOS solved the
problem.
