XP Pro Install

Computer froze up a week ago during an electrical outage.
Could not boot to any of options given by using F8 on
boot. Would go to windows xp screen and freeze. Decided
to bite bullet and reformat. No luck. Gets to starting
windows installation and freezes. Have run hard drive
utilities and found no problem. Changed video cards and
elimanated a few things but still no luck. Decided to try
98 install and it worked. Had ME and it installed. Tried
xp pro again and it froze up at same point as always.
Ordered replacement cd. Froze at same point.
Have run out of things to do.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Problem solved for time being. I was told by a computer
tech to check BIOS and to make sure APIC was enabled. It
was and XP would still freeze at same load point. So I
decided to disable it and XP started loading. I have not
idea what this BIOS setting is. Does anyone know what it
does?
