i am trying to install win xp pro on a brand new hard
drive. it formats the drive, copies files, etc, but when
the computer reboots and is supposed to open windows, it
just goes back to the original "welcome to setup" screen
and i cannot get out of it. if i take the disk out and
try to run windows, or if i choose repair, the comp says
no os found, even though i get the setup message that win
xp was successfully installed. how do i get past this?

When I installed XP on my system, it had to reboot 3 times
during setup to setup my files, and hardware. Is your
installation still trying to detect your hardware and
configure your OS settings? How long does the welcome to
setup screen stay up there?

i never got any floppy with the hard drive. would i be
able to download something like that from the
manufacturer's website?

check your manufacturers website. I'm guessin you got a maxtor or western
digital.
