XP Pro Install Never-ending Loop

Hello

New to these discussion groups - hoping for some help. I am trying to
install a retail XP Pro upgrade disk over an existing OEM XP home edition
installation on a Toshiba laptop.

The XP Pro install failed with a Stop: 0X000000C2 Error Bad_Pool_Caller blue
screen. The system will now only boot back to "resuming the XP Pro setup",
which fails at this same point every time (tried 5 times).

I have tried booting to the XP Pro CD but each time thethe machine just
resumes the XP Pro setup. I cannot get to Safe Mode or a command prompt.

Would anyone have any ideas? I have looked in various areas but haven't seen
a suitable solution.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi,

To boot the CD, you may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS. A
repair install may help, but the error message indicates a driver problem.
Did you check for any needed drivers from Toshiba? Some of the ones your
laptop requires may not be on the retail disk.

Incidentally, you can often revert by "cancelling" out of setup after
restarting setup.

Same problem with reinstall of XP home after crash: cancelling out of
install only causes computer to reboot and advance to place where install
failed before.

Hi Greg

I just tried to install the XP Pro upgrade and I'm stuck in the same loop as
you mentioned before. Can I ask how you finally got out of it (short of
doing a new full install)?

Thanks
