XP Pro Install Problem - Stuck in a loop.

Greg

Hello

New to these discussion groups - hoping for some help. I
am trying to install a retail XP Pro upgrade disk over an
existing OEM XP home edition installation on a Toshiba
laptop.

The XP Pro install failed with a Stop: 0X000000C2 Error
Bad_Pool_Caller blue screen. The system will now only
boot back to "resuming the XP Pro setup", which fails at
this same point every time (tried 5 times).

I have tried booting to the XP Pro CD but each time the
machine just resumes the XP Pro setup. I cannot get to
Safe Mode or a command prompt.

Would anyone have any ideas? I have looked in various
areas but haven't seen a suitable solution.

Any help gratefully received.

Greg,

you're doing fine so far. :)-)

This is a driver or hardware error. Can you read the blue screen
and find out which driver is the culprit? Sometimes Windows
finds out and displays it right there.

Do you have any removable devices installed? It may help to
actually remove them.

Other potential culprits are CD or DVD burners and graphics
adapters and, of course, their drivers. You could try to
actually remove or disconnect them. Power down the computer,
open it, and pull the device data cable from the device, then
try to start the computer.
