XP Pro constant rebooting before windows can finish loading

I have been having problems with XP Pro rebooting while windows is loading.
this is after post and before the login screen. It happens normally about
the halfway point through loading while the XP Pro splash screen is up. I
have reset my bios several times, I have tried "Lask known good", i have
tried safe mode and none of those work. I have data that i can't afford to
delete so formating and reenstalling is not an option and I have spent long
hours looking for my XP cd and still can't find it. I am hoping that someone
can help explain why this is happening and maybe have a way to fix it.
Thanks in advance.

Whenever I read the phrase "I have data that i can't afford to
delete" I think "If the data is so important, why didn't you back
it up when you had the opportunity?" This is obviously the time
for you to think about your backup philosophy and the iron rule
that important files must always be stored on at least two
independent media.

About your current problem: Your first step must be to save
your data. Pull out your hard disk, install it in a friend's PC,
get him to seize ownership of your folders if necessary, then
copy the lot to his disk.

A better alternative would be to copy the data to a 2.5" disk
in an external USB case. You would need this disk anyway
for future backups (unless you persist in skating on thin ice).

If you don't have any suitable friends, ask a reliable computer
repair shop to do it for you. Try to be present when they
do it in order to minimise the risk of an accident.

As an illustration to what might happen, read the item
"NTLDR is missing error", posted in this newsgroup
five days ago. It's scary stuff.

I second what Pegasus wrote. Don't be trying repairs without first backing
up the important data. That should always be the first thing to take care
of. Best to do it before the inevitable problems arise, but now that you
are in the middle of it, do the backup first.

On a separate note sooner or later you will need an XP Installation CD. If
you can't find yours find someone who has the same type, that is Retail v.
OEM v. Branded OEM, Volume license, Home v. Pro, and language version. Make
a copy of it. There is nothing unique about the CD as long as it matches in
the characteristics detailed here.

If you can't find anyone, and it's a retail CD then see this link.

If it's OEM you'll have to contact the vendor for assistance.
