XP Pro - CD ROM and Outlook 2000 problems

Hello...

Over the last few weeks, I have been having problems with Outlook 2000. I
started noticing a few weeks ago that a calendar that I have shared with
outlook on my other comptuer stopped updating. And in the last few days,
Outlook closes down after being open for more than about 5 minutes. It seems
to run fine when it's open, but it just closes.

So I thought I would see if there was a problem or if I could possibly
re-install it. I put in the Office 2000 CD and the CD ROM recognizes there
is a CD in it, but it doesn't read that CD. It changes the icon to show that
there is a CD in the drive but it treats it as if there is nothing on the CD.
It won't even read a music CD or a DVD (and it's a DVD ROM drive). Even
with a DVD in the drive, it shows there is a "CD" in there but shows nothing
on that "CD"

I have a second CD/DVD RW drive and I have the same problem with that drive
so I can't help but believe it's software related.

I'm at a loss - if the two problems are connected or not, and how to fix
them. When I send off the error report to Microsoft they just tell me they
no longer support Office 2000 and I should consider upgrading.

In the last few weeks, I have installed SlingPlayer (for my Slingbox) and
Bit Torrent. I hadn't used a CD since I installed sling player so I don't
know if that caused it or Bit Torrent. I have since removed Bit Torrent and
sling player to no avail.

Can someone help lead me down a better path?

Thanks,

Jim

If this was my system, I would uninstall the devices from Device Manager,
reboot and let Windows find the drives again. See if that helps.

I would also check the physical coonections of the drives to the MB and make
sure they were secure.

Okay...

Just figured out by viewing the event log that the IMAPI service was
starting and stopping itsself. By activating that full time I have now
regained use of my CD ROMs again. Thank goodness! Although who knows if it
will be a permanent fix, it's at least one step in the right direction.

Now to figure out why outlook shuts down................

Thanks for the advice Maincat...

OK - the IMAPI thing was not permanent as I just tried to use my CD rom again
and got the same errors as before, despite IMAPI being set to automatic.

OK - seems like I got it...

For those who care - I had shared my calendar. By cutting off the sharing,
I seem to have resolved the Outlook problem.

As for the CD ROM - Roxio Easy CD Creator. I removed it and all seems ok
now. That software has caused me more problems than it was worth.

Thanks to all that checked on this...
