Drivers for replacing CD ROM with CD RW in XP SP2

I have 2 optical drives on my Windows XP SP2 machine.
E: is a DVD +RW/CD-RW
F: is a CD-ROM

I want to replace F: (the CD-ROM) with a CD RW, i.e. a CD burner.

I have a never-used CD burner that I can use instead of just the cd reader.

How do I do this? (I've installed new burners before but never did
replacement)

Do I just remove the CD ROM and insert the CD RW, attaching power, bus, and
audio as appropriate and leaving burner set as slave ? I am assuming that
Windows XP has any drivers it needs for the optical drive labelled F: And I
assume that using it as a burner will function when I use either the
built-in Sonic software or my Nero vers. 7 ultra.

Basically, because I already have an optical drive in that slot, are all
drivers etc. already in XP so that I don't have to install drivers etc?

Thanks
Chet

It should be automatic as Windows XP has all of the drivers built in.

The only real concern would be with CD Burning software if you want to
do things (such as copy complete CDs or burn .iso files) that the CD
burning software in Windows XP will not do. In that case you will
need to install additional software after the drive is in place. Most
new CDRW drives come with a free OEM copy of a CD Burning program such
as Nero.

Good luck

Ron,
Quick reply! Thanks.

Maybe you missed this part where I said, "And I

I already have a burning (and everything else, i.e. it does WAY too much for
my taste) program on my machine, besides what is in the XP operating system.
I have installed Nero vers. 7, that I purchased, unrelated to any specific
drive. It did not come with an optical drive and should not be limited to
any specific piece of hardware, because it wasn't bundled with a
drive.....correct?

Therefore, it sounds like just a straight physical swap?

Thanks.
