CD-RW Problems

I'm running on a Dell 2.4 Ghz Pent 4 with two cd drives . One is a read only
and the other is a CD-RW. I have been backing up my data on the RW drive for
the past couple of years with no problems using Sonic's DLA ver 1.0.0.1 ( I
think). Yesterday I tried to replace the current CD in the drive with
another back up CD, I got the following Message when I inserted the new CD "
Sonic DLA... Please wait while your media is updated" when this happened my
system froze and the only way I could proceed was to power down using the
power on/off button. Power comes up and the CD in the drive seems to R/W OK.
All is well until I put in a new CD , I tried a newly formatted one and also
one with data on it. I got the same result System freezes.
Any ideas as to what is going on? Thanks in advance for your help.

load the updates, they all have them..Otherwise,try reinstalling sonic

I think I can add some advice here. You have 2 Rom drives.
I'm not sure but I seem to think each drive should have its own software.
The manufacturer will tell you what you need to know about that...you can
probably use the one software.
A very good tip is to open the software application before you insert the
CD or CDRW.
If the CD is not inserted before the application is open Windows tries to
open the Windows CDRom application and the CD burning application fights
Windows for the CD...lol...scrap!...look out!...
I've been doing quite a lot of CD and DVD burning lately and I'm trying
to develop this habit of inserting the media after the application is open
so there is no...scrap...get it.
I have been hearing this sort of spitting and hissing coming from the
CDRom drive if I insert the media then let the applications open to fight
for the media.
