XP PC Upgrade

I have an older PC running XP Professional. I was just given a newer PC with
no hard drive. Can I just remove all the devices from the Device Manager on
my old PC, take out the hard drive, install it in the new PC and boot it up?
Will it just discover all the new devices and keep going?

Thanks.

Im not sure of this, but atleast copy the /i386 files from your cd to your
harddrive before the change. If not, it might not be able to load cdrom
drivers, and without drivers, you will be stuck.

If it fails, you could always try to "repair" your install on the new box.
It will detect new drivers and fix most startup errors (If any).

Good luck!

Unless the new computer has the same chipset on the system board. it will
have to be reinstalled using the repair function in the installer. Versions
of Windows prior to 2000 did not care but since 2000 shipped, Windows bases
the HAL on the motherboard chipset.
