XP/Office 2003 NTLM logon requires specifying domain

We have "shared" computers on our network that have a generic logon. On each
of these computers we have built Exchange Profiles for each of our users so
they can access their personal e-mail from the generic account. Each
individual profile is set to NTLM security and the option to always prompt
for user name and password is selected (to ensure each individuals e-mail
can't be opened by the other computer users).

We just migrated from the workstation using Windows 2000/Office 2000 to
XP/Office 2003. Now, after the user selects their profile and is prompted
for userid/password, they have to qualify their userid with our domain. This
was not the case in our previous configuration. The exchange server in both
the previous and current configuration is Exchange 2000.

Is it possible to set the default domain for this type of logon?

This is a long shot, but try creating the following key.

Location: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC
Dword: DisableCredUI
Value: 1
Acceptable values: 0 or 1

This might bring back the legacy dialog with the change password button. If
it does, then see if the following location exists.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\

If all goes well, you will get the legacy dailog that asks for userid,
domain, and password. If the gods are smiling the dialog will remember the
userid/domain from here out and write it to the HKCU location above.

I'm beginning to think my IT luck may have changed for the week.

I added the RPC key and, sure enough, now get the old dialog. But it does
not retain the domain name.

The HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange location does exist -- but is there
some magic key to set?

Nope. The first person to logon with the new or is that old dialog should
trigger Outlook to write two new string values under
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange. (LogonDomain and UserName)

Hi

I know this is a little off-topic but in the
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange is it possible to specify a password?
