Xp now reports cable unplugged

I have been running xp with a lan connection to the internet. All of a
sudden the connection has stopped working.
XP now reports that the cable is unplugged. The internet connection is
ok as I have checked it on another pc.

I have checked the cable at both ends and it is connected ok. The
green light at the pc end is on. The orange light is blinking (to
indicate network activity).

I have even uninstalled the network drivers and re-installed them. But
I still get the cable unplugged message.

Try a differant cable first if no success replace the lan card if it has one
if it is on the MB install a lan card to see if all is well if it is MB is
bad. I have had 6 of these problems in the last 3 weeks. ALL were either
card or MB. Let e know.

I tried different cable. The LAN card is built into motherboard. I
would think that if lan card or cable was faulty, I would not get the
green and blinking orange lights.

This was last night.

I got up this morning and tried it and the error mesaage has
disappeared; the connection is working now. WEIRD!
