Intermittent network cable is unplugged.

My computer displays the "network cable is unplugged" message intermittently.
The green NIC light flashes continually. I replaced the network cable and NIC
card but did not fix the problem. The cable is good when plugged into another
computer. Changing cables does not correct the problem. I have read the other
posts and tried setting the NIC speed and duplex modes but did not have an
effect.I have 5 computers in the network with ADSL modem for internet
connection with no similar problem.
The computer is the only one running xp pro and has an athlon 64.

The "network cable is unplugged" message could indicate a problem with
whatever device is on the other end of the cable -- hub/switch/router,
DSL or cable modem, etc.

Thanks for the response.
I have checked out the router and dsl modem and there are no problems with
them. No other computer on my network demonstrates this problem and when the
network cable from this computer is plugged into any other computer, this
problem does not occur.
The analysis of this problem.
1. occurs only with this computer. There are 2 symptoms. First is the
message "network cable is unplugged" and second is the green network
connected light that blinks intermittently.
2. the network cable, router and dsl are functioning correctly as evidenced
by plugging in other computers to the cable, router and dsl.
3. it is doubtful that it is a NIC problem as I have changed the NIC with
the same problem.
4. I have created a new connection for the new card and the problem is still
evident.
5. I have changed the NIC settings as discussed elsewhere in this forum.
This problem has been reported many times in this forum and nowhere have I
seen that it has been resolved. INHO I think that there is a timing conflict
that creates this problem. A combination of XP, motherboard & processor, and
the NIC standards. I am not well versed in these issues, so I may be shooting
in the dark
Are there any others that still have this problem?
I thank any that post responses.

I had this problem and after replacing my onboard NIC with an ethernet
adapter PCI card, problem was solved. I know how frustrating it can be
and wish you luck.
