Hi!
I installed the latest patches from windowsupdate today on my XP-Pro.
After the reboot XP greetet me with "User Interface Failure - Logon
User Interface DLL 'MSGINA.DLL' failed to load. System Administrator
must replace or restore this .... etc." and with the only option to
reboot. I used my XP CD to repair (i.e. I chose to install and then
repair an existing installation) the system. It's booting fine again,
but I can not login. It accepts my old login/password but immediately
logs me out again.

Any ideas what I can do? I just need to get to my files (that will be
fun, 'cause I've extensively used EFS - but I have a backup of my key)
to make a full backup...

Thanks,
Markus

Hi,
You need to boot into "Recovery Console," to fix the problem. So whether
you do this from the boot menu, or you boot from the XP CD, you need to
get in there and get to a command prompt. Once you are at a command
prompt (i.e. c:\ Prompt)

1. Type "cd\I386" then hit enter.
2. Type exactly "expand shell32.dl_ c:\ winXP\system32\Shell32.dll" then
hit enter.
3. It should then replace the file that is corrupt.
4. next do the same for the msgina.dll file by typing "expand msgina.dl_
c:\ winXP\system32\msgina.dll" and hit enter.
Reboot the machine.

I got the same error after a background update (never again!). I
EXPANDed from my original CD MSGINA, SHELL32, MPR, MYDOCS, and even
WINLOGON.EXE. Doesn't help - I still get the error.

Any OTHER ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Barry
