XP/ME network

I've pretty much given up trying to use IP only in setting up my home
network. I've been through all the troubleshooting suggestions here and at
many other sites and still can't get it to work. I have two PC's running
Windows ME and one running XP pro. I have installed NETBEUI (I know its
really not supported on XP) on all the pc's and now I have some
capabilities. The two ME pc's recognize each other but neither find the XP
system. The XP machine recognizes only one of the ME systems, but I have to
drop my firewall for this to work, but that's most likely another issue. I
am NOT using internet connection sharing and all three can connect to the
internet via a single cable modem. All three PC's are using Ethernet
connection thru a hub. The cable modem is also connected to hub.

As far as I can tell both ME systems are set up exactly the same. I can't
understand why XP only sees one of them and the neither ME system sees the
XP system.
