XP look vs Classic look on desktop...

Is there a way to change the XP desktop to the classic look? I know gow to do
that for the start menu, select classic start menu, but i want to have the
classic look for the desktop as well. TIA

Yes there is. You'll need to choose the Windows Classic theme from the
Desktop properties.

Right-click on the Desktop, go to the Themes tab, select Windows
Classic from the drop down list.

As you suggest, you've change the Taskbar and Start Bar, this should be
the last step.

stop the themes service
this will shutdown all the blinking stuff permanently for all users and
the welcome screen as well

run this in command prompt or from the run dialog box: net stop themes
