XP login slow

Hi,

I have a IBM thinkpad laptop having problem with windows login.
If the laptop connected to the network, then the login is ok.
if I unplug the network cable, after keying in the password, it takes long
time to get into the desktop screen.
Anyone can help?

Thank you

Hi there,

But I have another same machine with the same spec. Doesn't have the same
problem.

This is normal. XP sees the NIC and is trying to create a connection and
takes awhile to timeout. One workaround is to disable the NIC in Network
Connections when it is not in use.

Sounds quite normal. Your laptop is looking to connect to the network,
and is doing it's best to do so. It sounds like your laptop is in
perfect shape and doing exactly what it's designed to do.

As your laptop is always connected to the network, your network configuration
settings must be changing. As a result, when you log on, your laptop must be
searching for your network client but as it can't find any, it just logs you
