Windows XP logon take 3 minutes

Jamie

have a new laptop with Windows XP pro. recently, after
undocking and taking home and returning to office, I
notice that it now takes 3 minutes to get past the login
screen. Happens now whether on or off dock. I unplug the
network cable and still same thing. So, it's not the
network cable. I tried SpyBot and AdAware but no change.
Checked for virus, none. Checked network settings and
entered my DNS settings and WINS settings manually. Same
thing. I do finally connect to the network (if on the
dock) and do get to the desktop screen (if undocked) after
the 3 minutes is up. From then on, all is well BUT it
takes soooooo long to login. Any ideas appreciated.

Hi Jamie,

Try the following step:

1) Disable any services not require. Your time requires for booting
up willl be longer if Windows have to start a lot of services.

2) Try running Bootvis. It will helps speed up your bootup time.

3) Make sure the size of your user profile is not huge! You can check
it under My Computer Properties > Advanced tab > User profile
settings.

If you are logging on to an Active Directory domain, check to make sur
that your DNS primary server is that of your domain controller
