The OS is Windows XP Home edition.

Laptop : Hp Pav. ze5170

I tried to boot using safe mode , last know good
configuration etc. But still does not display login screen.

When i boot it just displays the Microsoft windows logo .
It does not display login the login screen/icon.

Since i am not logged on i cannot click on start/program
etc.

At this point ctrl+alt+del also does not work.

I am able to access the harddrive shared folder via
network . Not able to access the root c:\ because i have
not shared root.

Tried the diagonist tool and status of hardisk etc
displayed as ok.

Tried to boot using dos boot floppy . After booting not
able to access c: . It say invalid drive. Do i have to
change config.sys / Autoexec.bat file ?

Unfortunately i did not create a rescue disk.

Also another thing i noticed is all the sliver button just
above the laptop keyboard light is lit. ie Envelop , TV ,
Globe , Lock , ? .

This problem started after i installed some software.

Also is there anyway i can access c: maybe dos booting
etc.

Try \\machine name\C$
If you haven't changed XP's default settings, you should be able to gain
access while logged on with an account in the administrator group.

That was a good suggestion but did not work.
Any other tips.

Since you have no access (local or network) to this particular machine,
your options are pretty much limited. If a repair installation is an option
provided with this laptop, I think I would give that a try.

Harry O covers all of the XP repair options (including a repair install)
quite thoroughly at his site so will give the URL for that:
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

Also, you asked about autoexec.bat and config.sys. XP doesn't use either of
these files to boot so they are of no use to you for this kind of
troubleshooting. If you have another XP system available you could make a
boot floppy that can be used to boot to the operating system. That might
help you get into XP to some repairs:

HOW TO: Create a Boot Disk for an NTFS or FAT Partition in Windows XP

You mentioned that all keyboard lights are on when you start the system, is
that normal for this machine? These things usually light up during the
initial hardware checks but, as you know, they usually blink out as that
proceeds. The hang may be due to a damaged driver or there may be hardware
(other than the hard drive that you've checked) that is in trouble.
Especially if your repair efforts get you nowhere, you should touch base
with the laptop manufacturer about this.
