When you boot with the XP CD, if another OS is already installed, during the
boot process you will come to a screen that tells you to hit any key if you
wish to boot from the CD and gives a 10 second count in which to do so, did
you watch for that screen or just try to boot from the CD without noticing
the boot screens?

Have you checked this same keyboard on other systems to see if you still
have the problem, if yes, you likely have a problem with the keyboard. Does
this keyboard require any special drivers or did this problem start only
after installing such drivers?

Have you made sure all the settings are correct in the BIOS, have you
checked to see if there are updates available for the BIOS, does the
processor have a VIA chipset or some other chipset that might require
special drivers or updates, have you tried removing other hardware items to
see if you can then boot the system with a fully functional keyboard (this
is a one by one process, something you'd have to test after each removal to
determine if some other device is interfering), are you using an Intel
Processor or an AMD, if an AMD, have you checked for any updates or patches,
are you overclocking, is the keyboard connected to a USB hub or a port
directly on the computer, if a port directly on the computer, have you tried
other ports?

Is this the first XP system you've ever built and are you sure all hardware
is XP compatible?

hello,
I have the exact same problem, but i was upgrading from win98 to win2k, and i am having the exact same problems, and have tried all of the above..

it is with a ps/2 keyboard. I can use bios and dos and windows 98 all fine. When i upgraded to win2k my keyboard stops working at the windows2k startup screen. I have since replaced the motherboard and hard drive and keyboard(ps/2) to see if there where any problems there, and it still has the same result. I have tried safe mode also, and still nothing. The keyboard option/heading does not even appear in the device manager...

I then used the mouse(serial, though a ps/2 mouse works fine) to connect to the net and download all of the latest windows updates to this date. It is also a fresh hard drive with a clean install of win 98 upgraded to win2k(that was the only way I could install win2k with just the mouse), So therefore there are no viruses to my knowledge.
I am very baffled at this problem, and wondering if you have encountered it before, as i can see a few other user have as well, but with no replies that help me...
This is very urgent as i plan for this machine to act as a server, and it is needed to be operatonal soon...
Thanks
- brad

Do you have access to any other keyboard you could test to see if it has the
same issue?
