Hi Dan,

Procedure to Reinstall Windows XP!

If you want to save any files, make a backup of those files off the Hard
Drive and proceed.

00. - Turn off the printer.
01. - Go into Computer Bios and Set Defaults and Exit, if you know how.
Make sure the Boot Order is set to Boot to CD-Rom Drive First.
02. - Insert Windows XP CD into CD-Rom Drive.
03. - Reboot the computer.
04. - Press any key to begin to boot from the Windows XP CD.
05. - Welcome to Setup.
06. - Reinstall XP - Press Enter
07. - F8 - I Agree
08. - Esc: Don't Repair
09. - Select Windows XP Highlighted Partition to repair Windows XP on.
10. - Press Enter.
11. - Follow on screen prompts to allow the Deletion and reinstallation of
the Windows XP System Files.
12. - Then Copies files to partition.
13. - Now it Reboots to Windows XP. Don't press a key to boot to CD.
14. - And now it installs Windows XP.
15. - You need to be here now.
16. - Starts at 39 Minutes to Complete.
17. - At 33 minutes, you need to set Time and Time Zone, if need to.
18. - And Enter The Product Key.
19. - At 29 minutes, you need to pick the Network, if needed to.
20. - Now wait for Reboot and you are done.
21. - Go online and go to Windows Update and download and reinstall all the
patches.

Note: - If you have the original Windows XP CD, not Service Pack 2 CD, you
will need to have already downloaded to Your Briefcase Folder,
WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU from this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en

You must install Windows XP Service Pack 2 before you can use Windows
Update. Also you must install the tool to validate your copy of Windows
after upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2, before you can begin to
reinstall all the Windows XP Patches.

Try this.

Unfort when I get to 9 on your list and it goes to reboot, it does not go
back to windows install, it tries to restart windows and you get the Windows
failed to start etc. So I think if I can get to the command prompt thru
repair i'll have to reforma the c drive. This whole thing started after a
brownout a few days ago.

Hi Dan,

I assume you have a second computer. Go to the manufacturer of the Hard
Drive that is installed in the computer you are having problems with.
Download its testing software. Create either a Bootable CD or Bootable
Floppy Disk and boot up the problem computer using that media. Test the Hard
Drive and scan for bad sectors.

Your brownout may have destroyed the Hard Drive. But see if you can wipe
the Hard Drive completely clean and start over with a completely clean Hard
Drive.

Hi Dan,

What is your motherboard's manufacturer, and model number of the
motherboard? What PCI Cards are installed? Besides the Keyboard and Mouse,
what else is connected to the computer? What is the CPU Brand and Speed?

Before you started to install Windows XP, did you test the configuration
to see if it could run Windows XP?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/upgrading/sysreqs.mspx

What version of XP are you trying to install?

It's an ASrock motherboard K7S41GX and im running a AMD Athlon xp2600 speed I
believe is 1.79. I had XP Professional on this computer from day one service
pack 2.
Ran without a problem till the brown out. I have everything disconnnected
from the computer and have no pci cards installed.

Hi Dan,

Is your motherboard still under warranty? This is the only thing that I
can think of, besides the CPU being bad as a result of the Brownout, or the
Memory Cards.

Try a Breadboard test on the motherboard. When I was having problems
with my new computer, they had me test the Motherboard for shorts. I was
getting no power. Instant on and Instant off.

Disconnect everything from the motherboard, including the Memory and CPU
Processor. All the should be attached to the motherboard is the CPU Fan, the
Power Connectors to the motherboard, 20 or 24 pin Molex Plug and the 4 Pin
Molex Plug. Also connect the Power Switch.

Now turn on the Power via the switch. The CPU Fan should run
continuously, without quitting. In my case, the CPU Fan quit right away. The
problem in my case was the Power Supply went bad. A new one to boot. If the
CPU Fan runs continuously, then your motherboard is working.

Then it is a CPU problem or a Memory Problem. Can you test the memory,
from BIOS, before you take apart the computer and test the motherboard. If
the Memory tests fine and the motherboard is okay. then you have a bad CPU
Chip from the brownout.

I purchased the PCI/Post card, because I was having problems. It
includes CheckIt Portable Edition portable bootable edition.

You may want to investigate this product.

No I built this one abouot 3 plus yrs ago. Both fans are running strong . So
I believe my cpu is cooked. I guess when the late great state of NY pays me
my back pay I will build a new one, till then i'll survive using my lap top.
Thanks for all your help
