Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for when the error occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

You either have a virus\malware or a conflict of some sort. Get hold of
these and install then update and run them. Only install one of the
antivirus programs I listed two to give you a choice. Try the online AV
first. You can also get some of these via computer magazine CDs if you cant
get online using your computer.

Also disable all items from windows startup. Start | run | type msconfig and
disable everything in the startup tab.

Also have a look in the control panel, system, hardware and look in the
device manager for any yellow or red marks. Repost if you find any and need
help to deal with the problem.

Also look in computer manager event viewer and see if there are any errors
or warnings that point in the right direction.

i might be totally wrong , but the issue where your pc displaying the
windows is shutting down , is probally caused by the blaster (lovesan) or
sasser worm.
go to the microsoft website or norton , and find the tool to remove the worm
and its varients . if the pc starts to display the message whilst downloading
the removal tool or scanning for the worm ....click on the start menu then
click on run and type

shutdown -a

this will terminate the shutdown process- a black box will flash up on the
screen and dissapear then the shutdown box will dissapear.

remember - dont connect to the internet , not even to activate ,without
applying service pack 2 for windows xp or a patch for the vunerbal files
within the operating system..

good luck
