help with freeze up?

i have a suite of programs i have been trying to open. they/it freezes up
when started and i have to shut windows down manually and reboot. when i
uninstall the program and reinstall it, i can open it repeatedly without
problem. if i reboot and try to open it it refuses to open and freezes the
desktop again and i have to uninstall it and start over.
someone suggested changing the compatibility of the program and i changed it
to windows 98 and tried to start it and it worked without a new install, but
then when i rebooted my computer and tried to open it, it went back to
freezing the desktop.
something must be happening to the program during windows shutdown and start
up?
ive had this group of programs for a few years and they have worked great up
until recently.
my computer is pretty empty so theres plenty of room.
i have windows xp home sp2 fully updated,
windows defender, spybot, spysweeper and others, + zone alarm + avg
anti-virus.
ive done registry cleanings.

i wanted to do a restore back to before i had these problems but restore
will not work.
i deleted ie7 awhile back i dont know if thats the cause for restore not
working?

im trying to avoid a destructive restore but i need my programs. (which have
worked fine with windows xp until recently.)

any suggestions as to what may be causing this problem and how i can fix it?

Is your mysterious "suite of programs" supported under Windows XP SP 2?
Are they supported under Internet Explorer 7?

Nobody knows how you "deleted" IE 7 and no one can guess what your
registry cleaner did to your computer. (There's no need for a registry
cleaner.)

I suggest you backup your personal files and start over. You may want to
show your computer to a professional, but my guess is they'll suggest
the same thing. Alternatively, if the damage done by your registry
cleaner is relatively small, you may be able to reinstall Windows,
provided your Windows CD includes SP 2.

why are my programs "mysterious"?
they arent "mysterious", they are corel draw and photopaint. they are
together in a suite of programs that work together.
and yes they are sp2 compatible. i have been using them for some time with
no problem at all.
i mispoke when i said i deleted" ie7. i "uninstalled" ie7.
and the problems began before i resorted to using a reg cleaner.
anyway, thank you for your help.

i have sp2 on a cd i ordered from microsoft.
my xp home windows originally installed on my pc did not come with it.
is this a problem?
cant i reinstall sp2 if i do a destructive restore back to the pc's original
condition?

No problem. It's just that a Windows CD /without/ SP 2 cannot be used to
reinstall an installation /with/ SP 2.

There are two ways to install Windows:

1- on an empty hard disk; known as a 'clean install'
2- over an existing installation of Windows; known as a 'reinstall'
(also known as: installing Windows over itself or an in-place upgrade)

If the sole cause of a problem is corruption or misconfiguration of the
Windows installation, re-installing Windows usually fixes the problem. A
reinstall replaces your Windows installation with the one from the CD.
If a problem is caused by some other software, hardware, or malware,
reinstallation cures nothing.

understood.
i have an hp desktop an it has the original factory condition os saved on
the pc. i can order the cd for added precaution which i will do IF i go that
route.
i also have a laptop with all of the same os and programs on it and the
corel suite works fine so im still trying to figure out what might be the
cause and why its just the corel suite. i have corel word perfect also and
that is fine.
i have a reg entry for corel application launcher and i am having all my
problems with launching the programs so im wondering if when i do a clean
install of the corel suite if this entry would be fixed if defective?
