XP Keeps crashing when watching movies

Hey there, I have a little annoying problem on my hands. When I watch
lenghty DivX movies on my computer in either Media Player, DIVX Player or
some other player, the computer crashes/hangs/freezes on me. Ctrl-alt-del
doesn't work and it won't respond to mouse or keyboard input (basically I
have to hit the reset button). Here's the specs:

OS: Windows XP Pro SP1
Processor: Athlon XP 1600+
Motherboard: Abit KG7-Lite (BIOS is DS)
Soundcard: Midiman Audiophile 2496
Videocard: ATI Radeon DDR 32MB
RAM: 512MB DDR

I can't figure out why this is happening, my computer is well cooled and
I've updated my BIOS for my motherboard, put in new drivers for my soundcard
and video card.

Any ideas? It'd be nice if I could watch a movie in peace without having to
hit reset over and over!

Adam,

With how many movies has this happened to you? Are they encoded with divx
or xvid? Have you downloaded the lastest distributions of each?
