XP is freezing

I'm running XP on a HP laptop. It freezes up
consistently. When I restart it, it freezes up also. I
tried to download the Windows XP service pack today, and
the computer froze halfway through the download.
Please, can anyone help?? Is there anything I can do to
fix this probem?

Sounds like a similar problem I have - Press F8 - boot in log mode. Now I
need to find out how to view XP's boot log.
