i have been having serious problems installing windows xp
pro on my pc.
my pc is now 4 month's old and was built by myself, and
to date, has not gone a single week without needing a
complete re-installation.
i keep recieving the error 0x0000007f and others which do
not make sense to me. after several attempts i get xp
installed but still recieve the error at seemingly random
intervals, sometimes several times an hour and then
nothing till next re-boot i have tried new ram new hdd
and also managed to install all xp updates, but i still
cannot get my system to remain stable. the pc
specifications are listed below. i would sincierly like
some help.
windows xp pro-all updates to present.
msi 875p neo fis2r- motherboard.
512 meg ddr( tried seporate ram stick's to no avail)
120gig seagate uata hdd( also tried 120 gig s-ata maxtor)
550watte globalwin psu.
p4 800fsb 3 gig processor (unable to enable HT)
cable modem.
radeon 9600 pro gigabyte 128meg agpx8 card.

Are you running a firewall on the system, with a cable modem
you are open to being hacked/infected. This could be at
least part of the problem.

You probably need to enable hyperthreading in the BIOS.
When you built the computer did you follow the instructions
to the letter? Did you configure the BIOS? Did you install
the mobo makers supplied drivers?

I would seriously consider doing a "clean install" of XP
with only the essential components installed.
That means only the mobo, CPU, RAM, hard drive, and an
optical drive, the keyboard and mouse. After the install is
done, turn the firewall on (ICF is part of XP but not on by
default). Then go on-line and download the updates. Then
install the additional hardware you may have.
Then install your applications.
