I need help!

I have a P4 Gateway with 80g Maxtor HDD, 1.5g RDRAM PC1066, XP home
SP2 (original CD is SP1) bought system back in 2002.

I gutted the the DVD-RAM burner and the 80g HDD from the gateway.
Installed the mentioned into a new tower that has AMD AM2 3500
processor, 400g Seagate HDD(NEW) and 2G OCZ Platinum Rev2 DDR2 800 RAM
and 630W Raidmax PSU.

Everything was assembled correctly and the 80G Maxtor HDD was
recognized in BIOS. I want to transfer everything from the 80G Maxtor
HDD(PATA) to the 400G Seagate HDD(SATA). I checked BIOS and confirmed
boot from HDD. All I would get at start up, is windows start up que
then just shuts down trying to reboot. I gave up on the install after
that.

I reinstalled a the Maxtor and DVD-RAM on the Gateway and system does
not boot. It tries to then just restarts. Help! I might just go pay a
visit to Geek squad or some computer shop.

I don't see whare you install xp on the new system...? If you are trying to
use the old hard drive with xp, it won't work without a repair install. Set
your new system to boot off the cd rom as the first boot device (in the
bios). Boot off the cd rom and when it ask if you want to install or repair
select install. After a bit you will be given another option to do a repair
install, select it.

Of Course, it won't get into windwos. Windows looks for the
Southbridge ID( vendor #, and devices #) and ACPI. If windows detects
new south bridge, it looks for info in the registry; if it can't find
any info, it give you blue screen.
The fastest way is to do repair install, but it will have a lot of
junk left in the hd. You can reinstall the windows, but it's too much
work.
The other way is to add new entry to the registry, Google
"mergeide.reg" and add some entry if the south bridge is not included
in the tweak.

I would not expect the BestBuy Geek Squad to be able to pour
yellow liquids from the shoes if the instructions were on
the bottom of the heel.

First re-assemble your old machine and backup all your data.

That done...put the new configuration together and perform a repair
installtion.

If that does not do the trick...just do a fresh install
and you should be all set
