Xp installation error

X

XPownzVista

Ok, i was going from Vista to XP, started loading the xp disk, it randomly
shut down during installation, now when it opens xp (vista is no longer) it
loads a blue screen with the mouse, flashes an error, and shuts down. Ive
tried repairing the installation but it asks me for an administrator
password, and since i didnt have one on vista, and havent been on xp yet, it
wont work. (leaving it blank doesnt work either)
Ive been trying to fix it for hours, trying to guess the password,
EVERYTHING, i know this is in the wrong place, but i need some help.
and ignore my fail run-on sentences.

EDIT: i have an hp compaq presario f700 (the laptop) and it didnt come with
a recovery disk, nor do i have one. ( it has that lame "recover without
disks!" thingy that doesnt work now)

Hello,

Your laptop is most likely using SATA which requires you to load drivers
when XP's installation starts.

You will need to either slipstream the SATA drivers and make a new XP CD or
make a floppy with the drivers.
http://www.google.com/search?q=xp+install+sata

Otherwise, you mention auto-restarting. This most likely means a blue screen
was generated and the system automatically restarted. Here's how to get the
full error message

Switch on your computer and keep hitting F8 until you get a menu titled
"Windows Advanced Options Menu". If you see the XP loading progress bar, you
missed it and will have to try rebooting again.

If there is only one option in that menu, hit F8 again.

In this menu select 'Disable automatic restart on system failure', Enter,
Enter and you should be able to view the full blue screen error when it
occurs again. Post back the message here and we will be able to help you
better

Note: If there is no 'disable automatic restart..' option, select 'Start
Windows Normally' and *quickly* hit the F8 key for the correct menu to come
out

Post back the message and we will be able to help you better.

Go to their Web site and first determine if XP is *able* to be installed
on it in the first place (that is, you will need XP-specific drivers for
the hardware, *if* they exist...).

If you have already erased your entire hard drive, including the
recovery partition, contact HP so that you may purchase restoration
media (for Vista) from them. If you're lucky, you only formatted the
main partition, and you might still be able to recover from the hidden
recovery partition. Then again, you said that that "thingy doesnt work
now," so you very well may have erased that, too.

Contact HP.

See Singapore's message about using F8 key during startup.

During startup, you can press your PAUSE/BREAK key to pause the display of
any message. If you pause before Windows has started loading, press
CTRL-PAUSE to resume. If you pause after Windows has started loading, press
ENTER to resume. Be sure to write down complete ERROR messages, including
error codes.
