XP Install

Trying to install XP Home Edition. Can't install due ot
problem copying some file. Trying to get to MS Support
on-line. MS Support on-line says must give "Product ID"
The only way they tell me how to get to ID is to have XP
installed and go to help and support, blah, blah. Since
I can't get to help and suppor to get ID - how else do I
find Product ID so I get MS Support. Catch 22.

Product ID is the code on the packaging, not the code entered to see the
install through..

No. The Product ID, as required for free support, is the numeric one
found at Control Panel, System. It is generated during Setup, and
sent along if you register (not activate) the installation. You should
then make a note of it. The 25 character code used for install is the
Product *Key*

This problem, of being unable to get support to help over initial
installation, is indeed awkward. I suggest posting detail of the
troubles on the microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment group, where
someone can probably help
