XP Pro product ID number is wrong! Says it's OEM, but it isn't! Fi

I need to request product support. For some reason, the product ID number
shown or my XP Pro is 76487-OEM-XXXXXX-YYYYY, as OEM OS, yet it is not and
never had this appear before recently. How did this happen? How do I correct
this? I can't get free support for failed updates with OEM OS product ID.
BTW, I built my system, and installed a retail purchased copy of my OS, the
CD is around someware, but I don't want to reinstall the OS over the top of
the current install.

Please follow this diagnostic troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and run the MGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

But none legitimate.
Besides, I am sure the OP wants a solution that does not include other
problems.

Call 1-800-PC-SAFETY and state that you're having a problem installing
Windows Updates. The support is free (as long as you don't ask any other,
unrelated questions), even if you're running an OEM version of Windows.

This is a key that is used by an educational body that teaches
operating systems. Its a free key with no strings attached. No calling
india to get permission to use your computer.
I condemn all selfish people who dont share this free stuff. Shame on
you.

Does the "educational body" know you are distributing their key to those
that simply ask?
Does Microsoft know the "educational body" does not properly control their
keys?

If there is no activation, not necessarily India as you incorrectly assume,
it is probably a Volume License key.
A Volume License key will not work with retail or OEM Media.

"Its a free key with no strings attached."
There is no such key as you describe.
However there are stolen keys that are used that way.

"I condemn all selfish people who dont share this free stuff."
It appears what you are sharing is probably stolen, but at the least it is
illegitimate.
