XP install problems

I am upgrading from ME to XP, when I install XP it keeps
freezing at 22 minutes remaining, and because it is after
the part where you restart your computer every time I
turn on my computer it goes straight ro the rest of the
install then freezes at 22 minutes remaining, is there
anyway to just quit the install, I've tried everything,
my computer is like helpless right now
 
I had a similar problem installing XP over ME. It would
freeze at 11 minutes and then state that after a reboot, I
could hit cancel to abort the installation. I never got
the cancel option. So I went round and round starting at
41 minutes and freezing at 11 minutes. I had several
messages of something about a program setup problem. I
finally reinstalled Win98 fresh.
