xp install problem

Hi all

i used to have win2k on my pc.
i had partitioned the hard drive C: and D:
then i installed XP on the PC .what happened was that it installed XP on
the D: drive,so now i have 2 ntfs drives.

it won't allow me to format C: drive.

i want to install XP again as it is giving me some shutdown problems.
what is the best way to go abt it

If you just want to start from scratch I'd usze fdisk to remove all
partitions from your pc (or remove them when you boot from the XP cd)
recreate a new boot partition (5GB seems to be good) and install XP with
NTFS file system. This will then be your C drive and you can recreate
further drives at a later date in XP itself.

What has happened is that the initial boot is still on C, so it will not
let you format the means of booting out of existence.

Do it as part of a reinstall of the system after booting the XP CD
direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New Install.
When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete the
current partitions and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next
stage - not necessarily using the whole space, so you can make a second
one for data later

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one
