Yes. There is no special upgrade version just for this, but the
regular XP Professional Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't
say so on the box).
But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.
If you do this, note that there are no guarantees that it will
work "without causing any problems." However unlikely, it's
always possible that something might go wrong. For that reason
it's prudent to be sure you have a backup of anything you can't
afford to lose before beginning.
Hi there. For what it's worth I just did that very thing yesterday on my
laptop. Used XP Home for about a year on it, but needed the ability to
encrypt files (plus a few other reasons). So I went out and bought the XP
Pro upgrade, popped the CD into the machine, and it just happened! Nary a
hiccup. I know there are some folk who dislike Microsoft, but I have to
say that I was impressed. The upgrade is not totally unattended. I needed
to input the code for the new CD of course, and then it needed
activating. A few things like your location etc. may need resetting
afterwards. But overall the process is utterly painless. I would suggest
you run something like Scandisk and have a clean out of the temps etc.
first, but I am sure, like me and most people, your chances of a good and
easy upgrade are 99%. Hope this encourages you.
