How can I upgrade an XP Home edition to XP Pro edition.
I have a new copy of XP Pro, but I do not want to loose
my data on the XP home..
Is this possible, and if so, How do I proceed

Set your bios to boot from your CD drive. Drop your XP pro in the drive and boot. Follow the cues. You won't loose any data but you will have to set MOST of your settings, views, layouts, etc., as well as cleaning out junk added to your favorites, links, and other places.

I booted up with an XP pro CD and it only gives me the
option to install wiping out the current apps, documents,
and everything.. it does not give me the opportunity to
upgrade.. just a fresh install, or put windows in anohter
directory.

Looks like u got an OEM (not retail) CD - backup your essentials and start

You must have the OEM version of XP Pro. You can only do clean installs with
the OEM version. Retail versions both upgrade and full will upgrade or clean
install.
To keep your files and settings, use F.A.S.T to backup. You will need to
reinstall the applications, but the settings will remain intact.

Do *not* boot the Pro CD. If it is a retail one, the way you do an
upgrade is to boot up your XP Home, and run the Pro CD from it. Enter
Install, continue with Upgrade
