When I try to upgrade my windows xp home to pro with an authentic
setup in windows, the setup begins and then i receive an error on the
last file for the "copying installation files" process. this file is
some weird named thing, aohkgaqr.sys. The exact error is "An error
occured copying file aohkgaqr.sys to C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\aohkgaqr.sys. The
file is missing." For those that think that it is the CD, its not,
becuase its an image provided by microsoft, 100% authentic. I have
tried to repeat the install and also burn it to a CD. I continue to
receive this error.

Never encountered this file before. A 'dir aoh*.* /s' of a known-good SP2 CD
reveals no such file, though it could be inside a .CAB archive I guess. I
don't think .CABs are used at the preboot stage of the setup, though, just
the files in the i386 folder.

Weird.

Are you sure this is a genuine Microsoft CD, and not a modified OEM one?
I've had this kind of trouble with one or two OEM CDs, where they have
evidently made a mistake when adding OEM mods to the setup.

Have you tried the skip option? I found that in the above case I could do so
without ill effect.

Windows might also be trying to copy the file because it is trying to
migrate some stuff from the old install to the new one. If you are doing an
upgrade then this very well could be the case.

I would search you hard drive as it is now for the file and see where it is
located.

What kind of computer is it? (Manufacturer, Make, Model)
